Facing Low Season during Ramadan, Hotels Are Encouraged to Prepare Discounts

Jakarta, Beritasatu.com – To face the arrival low season or the low season during the month of Ramadan, hoteliers are encouraged by the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy (Kemenparekraf) to prepare discount accommodation packages or fast breaking packages. This is also a step for the hotel to prepare itself for the Eid al-Fitr holiday.

Adyatama Tourism and Creative Economy Main Expert for the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy, Nia Niscaya, said that the Indonesian Hotel and Restaurant Association (PHRI) has predicted that there will be a decrease in foreign tourist arrivals and the movement of domestic tourists during Ramadan from March 10 to April 9 2024.

“Of course this has an impact on decreasing occupancy rates or occupancy of star-rated hotel rooms, especially in big cities like Jakarta,” he said online Tuesday (5/3/2024).

However, he continued, the Chairman of PHRI, Haryadi Sukamdani estimates that hotel occupancy during the Eid holiday in 2024 will be high. This estimate is based on the overall improvement in hotel conditions in Indonesia in 2024 which is increasingly improving.

Apart from that, this estimate is also based on PHRI data regarding hotel occupancy ahead of Eid 2023, that in a number of hotels in favorite tourist destination cities there is already more than 70% occupancy.

Nia encourages hoteliers to provide room discounts of up to 40% and other discount packages, such as packages for breaking the fast together at hotels, so that hotel room occupancy can remain full even though they are facing a low season.

“When low season, it’s good if you can sell with a big discount of up to 40%, it’s much better and profitable if the occupancy is only 30%. This is because Indonesian people who are Muslim and fast do not carry out activities traveling while fasting. “However, it is predicted that during Eid there will be a massive spike,” he explained.

By providing this discount package, it is hoped that we can prepare for the availability of hotel rooms during the Eid al-Fitr holiday.

Based on predictions from the National Police Traffic Corps, the number of Eid homecoming travelers in 2024 is estimated to reach 200 million people, or an increase of 6% compared to the number of Eid homecoming travelers in 2023 of 187 million people.

“Apart from that, the Minister of Transportation also predicts that the percentage increase in the number of homecoming travelers this year will reach 70%,” concluded Nia.
